STRAWBERRY BANK LIQUEURS - KENDAL, CUMBRIA
Mike and Helen Walsh established Strawberry Bank Liqueurs in 2001 at The Masons Arms, at pub they owned on Cartmel Fell. 2001 was the year foot and mouth struck and as so many footpaths where closed to walkers the pub when very quiet. As damson beer used to be made on the premises the couple started to produce damson gin to give them extra income.
The damson gin, produced from the juice of local Damsons grow in the Lyth valley, prove so popular that they decided to sell the Masons Arms and concentrate on the production of liqueurs with a view to increase the range.
In 2002 they moved production to a purpose built food unit at Plumgarth Food Park just outside Kendal. Here they increased the range to five, Damson Gin, Sloe Gin, Blackberry Gin, Strawberry Vodka and Blackberry Liqueur (whiskey base).

T'OWD TUP BEER 6% ABV - DENT BREWERY - DENT, CUMBRIA
Nestling in picturesque Dentdale, in that corner of the Yorkshire Dales National Park that is actually in Cumbria, is one of the most remote breweries in the Country. Originally, the intention was to sell Dent beer only at the Sun Inn, but such was its popularity that other landlords in the Dales and Lakes asked for supplies and the brewery was soon operating at capacity. Many visitors that came to the area and enjoyed Dent ales went back to their home towns and persuaded their local licencees to obtain a cask or two as a 'guest' beer. As a result, draught Dent beer has been known to travel as far as Jersey in the Channel Islands and is regularly on sale in at least one good pub in Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds.

From creating award-winning fine dining* at our Cornish hotel, my husband and I have returned to Cumberland and turned our culinary skills to making premium preserves. I produce a range of preserves at home in my specially adapted domestic kitchen, using only the best quality locally-sourced produce whenever possible. I make small batches in traditional open pans on my Rayburn - the only way to guarantee consistent high quality and freshness.
My preserves do not contain any artificial preservatives, flavours or colours and are thus completely natural." Claire Kent

FRUTTA COTTA - LIZZIE'S HOME MADE - PENRITH, CUMBRIA
The inspiration for Cumbrian Frutta Cotta came from a family holiday in Umbria, Italy. The local restaurants were fascinating and delicious, inspiring an exploration of Italian recipes when back home in Cumbria. From this exploration came Cumbrian Frutta Cotta (Cumbrian cooked fruit) inspired by Gennaro Contaldo's recipe. Cumbria meets Umbria! Bottling with glass jars takes me right back to my Granny's kitchen with us testing jam for setting wrinkles in a saucer!

FARRER'S COFFEE - KENDAL, CUMBRIA
The smell of history at Farrer's is as strong as the smell of tea and coffee. The building itself dates from the 17th century and is a grade 2 listed building, from where Liverpool Tea Merchant John Farrer started his business in 1819. Since 1990 the proprietors of Farrer's have been Gordon and Gillian Grace from Lancashire
The huge tea counter inside the main entrance is a listed feature as are the twenty original tea canisters behind it. Canisters which carry names like - Pure Assam, Lakeland Special, Formosa Oolong, Jasmine, Green Gunpowder, Rose Petal and many more
To the left of the short flight of steps up into the coffee sales area is the original Victorian coffee grinder dating back to 1853. Presumably somebody with big muscles used to operate it, such is its size. Fortunately technology has moved on and grinding is done at the touch of a button

MOORHOUSE'S BREWERY - BURNLEY, LANCASHIRE
Moorhouse's Brewery was established in 1865 by William Moorhouse, a Burnley man who took great pride in his town and his craft. The Brewery remained in the Moorhouse family for generations and even today the owners maintain the traditions and values established all those years ago. Pendle Witches Brew is produced by craftsmen using traditional brewing techniques and equipment, some of which date back nearly a century. The name Pendle Witches Brew originates from Pendle Hill in Lancashire, a striking geographical feature in the shadow of the brewery, and an area steeped in legends of witchcraft that date back to 1580. Back then Witches Brew meant something very different from today.
